“Baseball is America’s dear pastime. It’s a game that teaches us about teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. And it’s a game that brings us together as a nation,” George W. Bush once mused. Come with me to Las Vegas, the vibrant city full of life, where an emerging and burgeoning sport is gaining ground. Together, we’ll explore a journey through time and space that will leave you mesmerized.

You see, the stars aligned on June 16, 2023, when Governor Joe Lombardo, with a flourish of his pen, signed Senate Bill 1 into existence. This was no ordinary bill. It was the golden ticket for the Oakland Athletics, affectionately known as the A’s, to pack their bags and set up shop in the thriving Summerlin neighborhood of Las Vegas.

But, let’s take a step back. The Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum has been an ever-reliable fortress for the A’s, playing host to many of their victories. Despite its age, the stadium has faithfully served them for over half a century. Sadly though, its deterioration over time has taken its toll on the beloved structure.

Fast forward again, and what does Vegas have in store for our baseball heroes? Nothing short of a sparkling new playground. The Athletics are among a select group of teams in the Las Vegas area along with the Raiders and Golden Knights. This is certainly an exciting development for sports fans in the city! They’re turning the city into a veritable Disneyland of sports. And hey, baseball seems to be having a bit of a moment across the country!

It all began in April 2023, when the A’s made a major announcement to move to Summerlin. Subsequently, they enlisted Populous, well-known for their stadium design prowess, to construct their new home. In May the project was underway and soon enough, it came to life.

We can already anticipate the beginning of constructing the A’s’ new home in early 2024. The clock is ticking until 2025 and excitement is building up with every passing day. It won’t be long before we get to break ground on this exciting new project.

Let’s cap it off with some words of wisdom. Mayor Carolyn Goodman can barely contain herself, saying, “We are excited to welcome the Oakland Athletics to Las Vegas.” And Commissioner Rob Manfred – he’s just as jazzed. He thinks this move is the best thing since sliced bread for baseball.

So, friends, the A’s journey to Las Vegas is more than just a change of address. It’s an epic tale of a beloved sport, a team with a storied past, and a city with open arms. As this new chapter unfolds, I’ll be right here, turning the pages with you. Let’s play ball!
