Redemption Season: Evangel Christian Academy’s Pursuit of Glory

In a bid to keep the momentum of their compelling original content, Amazon’s ad-supported video streaming service, Freevee, is launching a coming-of-age docuseries, “God. Family. Football.” The series, set to premiere on September 1st, explores the life and legacy of Denny Duron, former pro football player turned legendary high school football coach and pastor, as he breaks a 30-year coaching hiatus to revive the football program he founded at Evangel Christian Academy.

Against the backdrop of the 2022 Louisiana high school football season, “God. Family. Football” follows the deeply personal and diverse narratives of Evangel’s players, coaches, and the wider Shreveport community. The once-dominant Evangel Christian Academy, boasting 14 state championships in the past 20 years, finds itself recovering from its worst season ever. The focus is now on redemption. With Pastor Duron at the helm, the academy seeks to nurture not just footballers who dream of college and the NFL but future leaders off the field.

What sets “God. Family. Football.” apart is Coach Duron’s “faith-first” approach to the game. His success formula – “God first, family second, and football third” – is an ethos that shapes the lives of the young players under his wing. This captivating series shines a light on Coach Duron’s unique leadership style and the invaluable life lessons it imparts.

“God. Family. Football” boasts a strong production team, with NFL quarterback Russell Wilson among its executive producers. The series is the brainchild of Propagate and was created and executive produced by Aaron Benward of Watershed.

Throughout the football season’s highs and lows, one thing remains constant for the team at Evangel Christian Academy: their unity and faith in Coach Duron’s formula for success. With this new docuseries, Amazon Freevee gives viewers a front-row seat to an inspiring journey of resilience, teamwork, and discipline.
