Forging New Pathways in Sports: IFL and XFL’s First Exclusive Combine
The Indoor Football League (IFL) is breaking new ground in the world of indoor football by launching its first-ever IFL to XFL Combine. Set to take place on August 4th in Henderson, Nevada, this inaugural event provides a unique opportunity for IFL players to demonstrate their talents to XFL Coaches and Directors of Player Development. This venture is part of the Dollar Loan Center IFL National Championship Weekend. You can live stream the event on their official YouTube page here.
The combine serves as an exclusive platform for IFL players to gain exposure and pique the interest of XFL personnel. According to IFL Commissioner Todd Tryon, this initiative is a significant step forward in the IFL’s relationship with the XFL, and part of a broader effort to create player opportunities in both leagues.
This alliance between the two football entities was first announced in October 2022. The partnership offers a structured means for players to transfer between the leagues, and allows players released from XFL teams the chance to sign with IFL squads. The introduction of the IFL to XFL Combine further cements this partnership.
Doug Whaley, XFL Senior Vice President of Player Personnel, expressed enthusiasm about the continued relationship with the IFL, and the combine’s potential to highlight the talent of IFL players to XFL decision makers.
Currently celebrating its 15th season, the IFL is the longest-running indoor football league in the United States. With a presence from coast to coast, the IFL boasts 14 teams nationwide, a number set to increase with the anticipated arrival of multiple expansion teams in the future. The league will be closing its current season with the Dollar Loan Center IFL National Championship on August 5th, 2023, in Henderson, Nevada. The championship game will be broadcast live on CBS Sports.
