Adult Swim announces its annual festival in San Diego, bringing together a captivating ensemble of artists and fan experiences.
Today, Adult Swim pulled back the curtain on their much-anticipated annual festival, which will take place at 5th Avenue Landing and Convention Way, outside the San Diego Convention Center, from Thursday, July 20 through Saturday, July 22. The Adult Swim Festival on the Green is renowned for its illustrious amalgamation of comedy, music, and art.
Headlining the event are Eric Andre, renowned for hosting “The Eric Andre Show,” and Flying Lotus, a trailblazer as a producer, rapper, and filmmaker. The roster also includes a constellation of other performers, namely comedian Sarah Sherman (also known as Sarah Squirm), Hemlocke Springs, Ginger Root, DeathbyRomy, and producer and DJ Akira Akira. Astoundingly, Adult Swim has made all activities free for fans aged 18 and above, though advance reservations are advised for the most sought-after experiences.
Adult Swim President Michael Ouweleen emphasized that the brand has always transcended its shows, encompassing music, comedy, art, and a strong commitment to fan engagement. He further urged attendees to take necessary precautions against the sun, conveying a sense of concern and affinity for the attendees.
To elucidate the significance of the event, it is imperative to understand the origins of Adult Swim. Launched in 2001, Adult Swim has been a forerunner in adult animation and an eclectic array of programming. Its initiatives to connect with fans have manifested in diverse formats, one of which is the Adult Swim Festival.
The festival boasts of custom show experiences, notably the “SMILING FRIENDS Rodeo,” which celebrates one of Adult Swim’s flagship series. Additionally, Tyler Bates and Joanne Higginbottom, renowned for their musical scores on “Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal” and “Unicorn: Warriors Eternal,” will be accompanied by a live orchestra for “The Genndy Tartakovsky Musical Experience,” preceded by an introduction from the acclaimed creator Genndy Tartakovsky.
In 1997, Toonami, a programming block on Cartoon Network, was launched and became a gateway to Japanese anime for many American viewers. In a nod to its significance, the festival will feature “Toonami on the Green,” an event not to be missed by anime aficionados, with breaking news, surprise guests, and exclusive reveals.
Moreover, Adult Swim’s upcoming programming block, “Checkered Past,” will be celebrated with a trivia and screening event, connecting with fans who have a proclivity for engaging content.
A unique feature of the festival is The Toasting Room: A Pop-Tarts Dining Experience, provided by Pop-Tarts®. This immersive experience offers attendees a respite with a three-course prix fixe menu celebrating iconic Pop-Tarts flavors.
Furthermore, in an astute alignment with a vital health message, the festival offers a hydration station with Hint Water, which is fruit-infused water with an additional vitamin boost in the Hint+ Vitamin variant. This initiative aligns with Adult Swim’s endeavor to ensure the well-being of the attendees. Concurrently, to mark the season two premiere of “Teenage Euthanasia” on July 26, a pink hearse will be dispensing bottles of Hint Water in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter during the festival.
The Adult Swim Festival promises to be a tour de force of entertainment, with a seamless blend of comedy, music, art, and fan experiences. The festival signifies Adult Swim’s continued commitment to fostering a robust connection with its audience, a connection that has been nurtured since its inception. With an eye on attendee well-being and an ear to the ground for what the fans crave, Adult Swim Festival stands as a testament to the evolution of the brand and the unwavering allegiance of its fans.
