Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Leads Campaign for Converse’s Historic Relaunch

Nike has announced the reintroduction of the Converse Weapon and its low-cut version, the Weapon Ox, aligning with the NBA All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis. This release marks the return of a product line first introduced in 1986.

The Converse Weapon, recognized in the late ’80s and early ’90s for its popularity among basketball players, is being re-released in its original material composition. The design features of the Weapon and Weapon Ox include leather uppers, Star Chevron underlays, egret cup soles, and the signature Y-bar. These details are reflective of Converse’s original design ethos.

Leading the marketing campaign for the relaunch is Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, an All-NBA first team point guard. The campaign draws inspiration from the original 1986 “Choose Your Weapon” advertisements, intending to connect the product’s historical relevance with its current reintroduction.

Available in its original colorways as well as new ones, the Weapon and Weapon Ox are set to be released on February 8. They will be available on converse.com and at select retailers. This release provides an opportunity for both long-time fans and new customers to experience a product line that has been part of Converse’s history.

The relaunch of the Converse Weapon and Weapon Ox represents a blend of maintaining traditional design elements while reaching out to a contemporary audience. These models offer a link to Converse’s past, as well as an option for current sneaker enthusiasts.
